Hi all!

Nintendo UK is hosting a tournament this year in March - April so I thought I'd share the great news! :)

There'll be 2 phases:
- the regional heats taking place in various venues across the country (between 1st March and 5th April)
- the Grand finale in London (26th April)

The rules will be the same as for the VCG '14 Season (detailed info for this competition is here: https://microsite.nintendo-europe.com/pokemontournament/terms)

The winner gets a 7-days trip to Japan for 2 people.

Here is below the link for you to register ;)
https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Misc-/Campaigns/Pokemon-Battle-Tournament/Pokemon-Battle-Tournament-858659.html

Sounds like fun ! :)

Umm....where's the list of locations? I can't find the locations to this event is this an organized event or do we do this at home through wifi? There aren't any locations for these regenal heats listed on the linked page just the terms and conditions.

You can see the locations when you're filling out the registration form - and yes it is an organised event, so you need to turn up in person.

Myself I'll be trying for the GAME at Hamleys and the GAME at Stratford.

Leeds the capital and power house of Yorkshire and my local area was NOT included missed out yet areas like Sheffield and Stratford that aren't even that brill locations get included for all these reason this is total bull if there's a contacts number I can use I will try and get them to change this bull or else I might not be able to go and if I can persuade them to change it from sheffile to Leeds as a location so it can work ALOT better for all then it's worth a try this is complete bull leaving out good locations and including bad locations seriously?, and Leeds is where half of Yorkshires population (in west Yorkshire) are as well home to 2 million. -_-

The locations are chosen for a number of things. The ones chosen were chosen for ease to get to, size of venue, and suitability for the numbers they will get. All the venues are large spaces with good transport access, well known places.

The biggest factor will be that they are allowed to use the spaces, a lot of venues don't allow events like this without a high cost or compensation for the extra inconvenience of large numbers of people.

Yes and like I said Sheffield has less of Yorkshire population in range then Leeds which is in range of half the county's population and doesn't have much money on it which Leeds does as the big financial centre of Yorkshire it is drawing most of Yorkshire in to spend their cash. (Especially with the expensive trinity shopping centre full of high quality clothing and so on that hasn't been open for too long.) While Sheffield isn't as good an area for jobs. Leeds is growing and Shefilds loosing jobs heck Sheffild have even to close down half their libraries recently for crying out load! Leeds is also near Bradford, (right next door west to Leeds in west Yorkshire), Wakefield (also in the west and Huddersfield (all missing out) as well as being fairly close to Sheffield and Manchester. Also Sheffield always seems to makes the headlines for extreme crime such as lots of gun shootings while Leeds is really just a big problem with burglaries. All the other reasons I have stated above also clearly go to show that Sheffield is in pretty much every way a worse location. Sheffield is near the midlands which doesn't need to do Sheffield as they have there own locations, while areas such as York ( and Hull and are a lot closer to Leeds. So Result? Leeds is clearly in pretty much every way the best location both money and distance wise for the Yorkshire county so it doesn't make much sense at all that they'd pick Sheffield over Leeds. The only reason they could have done so is because Sheffield is further down south than Leeds is where more money is likely to be which isn't hardly much of a reason in it's self. So there you go Samson you can't deny the facts when they all add up. -_-

I'm not denying the facts, those facts are why it wasn't chosen. Its a huge place meaning any space they wish to use in it will cost them more than its viable to spend due to the fact these events are free, they have to takes costs into consideration. You are not paying to go to these events, they are costing Nintendo major money for the enjoyment of fans, they will want to keep their costs down so they can do more of this in the future.

A lot of work goes into choosing these places, just because a city has a large population doesn't mean it will get an event, they are spaced evenly and they only have a finite am mount of time to do them in so they chose the locations they did so they could run as many events as possible.

I see what you mean now still. Wouldn't have thought that getting some game staff to put on some fun events for everyone would have been so costly part from prizes and such and it still doesn't change the fact that I might not be able to do 1 of these events let alone both of them. My dad would have to drive me there as I can't drive and my mums to dare dent to let my go on my own through public transport as I never travel to public places on my own, and as I'm still young. Or at least seen younger than I actually am but if he is willing to take me there and back despite trailing me to my Manchester and StreetPass events along with Birmingham for nationals it's self. If I was doing 2 then it would be Sheffield and Manchester but 2 would be considered way too much so I will have to see about Sheffield I doubt I can go but we'll see.

Well in considering that it is always in an NEC either in London or Birmingham I doubt it and as this gen is looking to be bigger then d/p, which is more successful then b/w which got a record 1000 turn out in 2011 2024 capped in to be precise. Were most certainly going to have our biggest expected turn out yet of over 1200 to around 1800 at the most. Especially since those that couldn't EV before can now super train their teams EV's up to compete with also adding a big difference of competitive popularity to the current gen 6 meta game so expect this year to be Birmingham or London NEC as always.

So they have changed the location for once and as always Manchester all where it's at for some reason maybe most of the fans live around there or it's just the city and size of greater Manchester in general. Either way can't complain half the 2 hour distance there and back from before but hopefully they will allow for that record turn out since most don't bother confirming over Facebook as it's minority in it's self, and is probably by far the biggest VGC nats facebook page yet and would be an opportunity wasted to miss out on the biggest nationals on record. So hopefully the space is there for at least 1100+ since Manchester is big in it's self with plenty of big venues fingers crossed.

Do you need a curtain amount of points to be able to compete in this years nationals? because I've seen people mentioning about point as if there are needed to compete.

As far as I know for VGC you don't need points only for the TCG but don't quote me on that, things have been known to change year on year
